Elvis Presley - Don't Leave Me Now (4-Track-Stereo) - #1 movie version - Complete+Remix and Remaster
When listening closely to the RCA mono master (#1 movie version, RCA no 2023, Take 2, May 09 1957) as part of this mono-to-stereo editing, I noticed that a guitar could be heard very quietly in the background. I had never noticed that before. The same guitar was also heard in the slow version of "I'm Left You're Right", so I heard it here straight away. Isolating the guitar was a challenge. Separating it from the rest was difficult manual work, but it was possible. The problem: Since the guitar is very quiet and in the background of the original mono master, it does not have any bass of its own. The separation did the rest, because there are practically no "different" basses. This problem could not be solved either, since there is no DAW that could calculate these basses from the available material. Nor is there an AI application. Normally you just turn up weak bass in the equalizer, but where there is NO bass, nothing can be amplified. In this sense, what you hear is original. In the mono master, this is not noticeable because the guitar is embedded in the bass of the overall mix.
Furthermore, when I listened closely and loudly into the mono master, I noticed a pumping pounding of the drums in the background - I had never noticed this before. I was able to isolate this too and place it much further forward in the mix. For some people this will certainly be too much. But I am delighted with it. Originally I had it much more clearly in the mix, but then took it back because it would have changed the character of the original mono master even more than my mix already does. But: This is roughly what it must have sounded like to the musicians in the studio when recording.
All in all, you can now hear a stereo mix of the mono master that is very different from the original mono mix - you can now hear the guitar clearly and separately on one channel, and you can hear the wonderful drums. In the RCA mono mix, you can hardly hear anything other than Elvis and the piano unless you listen carefully. I don't think that was intended. The technology at the time was all about prioritizing. If you didn't want drums, you wouldn't have used them.
I've created a completely new mono master mix remaster, which you can hear briefly at the end of the video - just like the original RCA mono mix at the beginning of the video.
Anyway, if you want to hear the mono master in a completely new mix, you should listen here.

Saw this at the local movie theatre in my neighborhood in Havana, as an 8 year old. Admission was 10 cents. Now I own the dvd and many years have passed, I'm in the US and I'm 76. I remember me and my friends went crazy when we saw the ad, saying it was Elvis and Richard Egan. Not knowing any movie actors we thought it would be Elvis and Little Richard. Can you make a temix of Viva Las Vegas in complete stereo from beginning to end.
I've already done that. It's the complete movie version, which means, in contrast to the studio version: the beginning and end, or the middle part, are stereo from the beginning (and not with the silent channel on the right), the drums and a stick are now in the middle, and the bongo overdubs from the movie version can be heard on the right. I can't remix any more. What do you think? The most I could do is mix the piano from the 2nd verse to the right instead of the left. Should I do that? Or do you want to hear the pure studio version? It’s crazy to think this was considered to be super “edgy” back in the day. The concept of convicts being the main focus/protagonists and Elvis’s moves were met with controversy. But it didn’t matter, because just like a lot of his music, the song was a big success and overshadowed the controversy. The “edginess” was one of the main reasons why he was so popular. Jailhouse Rock stayed at number 1 on the US Billboard for seven straight weeks!!! I always liked the choreography of this video :)
